Executive Coaching

Although Berke Associates coaching engagements most often focus on one of three types of leaders, high potentials, technically competent leaders who need help with people skills and senior leaders who need a thinking partner to “see around corners”, in today’s corporate environment leadership at virtually every level is being asked to do more with less. This often requires leaders to broaden their managerial repertoire quickly.

Executive coaching is a swift, sure and cost effective way of assisting leaders in scaling the learning curve because of the behavioral focus and continuity that is inherent in the process. Berke Associates executive coaches commit to the success of the leaders with whom they work with and put in all the time and effort necessary to ensure their growth. They create a systemic and sustainable structure of accountability.By checking in consistently and frequently, with the coachee’s key stakeholders they remain aware of the coachee’s progress and how it is being perceived by others.

The Process

Berke Associates employs a systemic approach to Executive Coaching. Coaching an individual without regard to the context within which she operates is often ineffective for two reasons. First, a non- systemic approach does not take into account the specific and unique challenges that a coachee may be facing. Two, people are slow to recognize change unless they are expecting it and looking for it.

Although Berke Associates offers coaching programs of almost any length, our six month process is most typical. In this coaching assignment certain elements are always present.

  1. An interview with the coachee, the coachee’s direct manager and a representative from Human Resources and /or Talent Development/Management.
  2. 360 degree interviews with coachee’s key stakeholders, direct reports, peers and managers.
  3. A meeting with the coachee during which the feedback is delivered and processed.
  4. An Action Plan reviewed and agreed to by the coachee, the direct manager, HR/ Talent Management and the coach.
  5. Ongoing meetings where specific and behavioral actions are outlined and where accountability for completing these actions is established.
  6. Follow up with key stakeholders throughout the coaching process.
  7. Follow up at six months after conclusion of the coaching engagement to determine how well sustained the behavioral changes have been. Spot coaching if required.
